Volunteer Options
Advocacy
Volunteer advocates are essential to the safety and support of our clients. These on-call volunteers provide 24 hour crisis services via cell phones. Advocates must participate in 45 hours of specialized training (offered at least twice per year) prior to volunteering.
Office and Clerical
A variety of office and clerical opportunities are available to volunteers. They range from one-time projects, such as mailings or copying to ongoing duties such as front desk receptionist.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Our historic Victorian home requires lots of tender loving care. Talented, handy volunteers who love old homes are welcome to help clean and maintain the Center, inside and out.
Events and Programs
The WRC hosts several annual events, all of which are successful due to the help and participation of volunteers.
Clothesline Project
The Clothesline Project is a moving memorial to Minnesota women and children who have been murdered as a result of domestic violence. Volunteers are needed to help create t-shirts, set-up and move the Clothesline through October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Take Back the Night
Take Back the Night is an annual rally and vigil to pay tribute to survivors of sexual assault. Usually held in April, community participation is critical to the success and impact of Take Back the Night. Volunteers organize, cook, perform, distribute information, and – most importantly – attend and lend support to the survivors we honor through this event.
Summer Kids Garden Project
The Summer Kids Garden Project meets once a week through the summer. Volunteers mentor children, helping them plant and cultivate their own gardens. These special volunteers model and reinforce creativity, nurturing, and nonviolence.
Pedal and Play
Pedal and Play is a fun, safe, healthy family event at Lake Park.
Families gather together and participate in planned activities while raising money for a great cause!
Garden Tour
The WRC Annual Garden Tour features several of Winona's unique private gardens. Volunteers assist in public relations, organization and information to facilitate participants' enjoyment of the gardens.
WRC Gala
The WRC Gala is the best party in town! WRC members and supporters get together around a theme to dance the night away. A dedicated committee throws this party and additional volunteers are always welcome.
