Featured Gardens
Sharon Kaczorowski “Wabasha Street Blooms”
207 East Wabasha Street, Winona
Sharon was inspired to expand her modest gardening attempts by her
neighbor and friend Jennifer. The front garden is a combination of
native plants, grasses, herbs, a dwarf cherry and evergreens, blended
with some annuals and garden art. Sharon’s goal is to inspire others to
beautify their front yards with flower gardens.
Wayne & Bonnie Kelly “Terraced Tranquility”
53 West Lake Blvd, Winona
Nestled against the southern bluff is this large terraced garden built
of Winona stone. Seventy steps lead up to the gazebo that overlooks
the garden. Here is a conifer garden, hundreds of hostas, several
interesting weeping trees, boxwood hedges, multiple small flowering
plants, annual plant borders, container gardens, window boxes, vines
and a variety of garden art!
Minnesota Marine Museum
”The Gardens of The Minnesota Marine Art Museum”
800 Riverview Drive, Winona.
These extended gardens were designed by Mark Swart, based on the
environment of the Upper Mississippi River Valley. The pathways will
take you past over eighty perennials, trees and bushes. A large
collection of perennial and ornamental grasses provide a full palette
of color during the growing season, brilliant fall colors, and unique
seed pods and textures during the winter months.
Ray & Dianne Radatz “Garden Medley”
25387 County Road 25, Lewiston
Over the hill and through the woods to the Radatz Farm. This garden is
definitely worth the drive! One old farmhouse and two passionate
plantspeople result in a must-see garden. Designed by Dianne, this
gracious home and gardens is an inspiration. Two large perennial
gardens a shade garden with hostas, kitchen and herb gardens, and a
container garden, and much more! These gardens build into a late
summer crescendo as the annuals explode into color!
Hazelton Garden “River Retreat”
Roy & Mary Lou Hazelton
850 Prairie Island Road, Winona
Tranquil gardens on the Mississippi with a beautiful pond 45’x20’
feet and hundreds of fish including koi, goldfish and shubunkins. Many
flowering lilies adorn this pond. Flower beds, vegetable garden,
grape vines, raspberries, mature trees and an expansive lawn give this
property a park-like presence!
Helga Heise “Hillside Garden”
1404 Heights Boulevard, Winona
Over the years Helga has vacillated between labor-intensive gardens
and almost zero maintenance evergreen plantings. The compromise is
perennials and annuals in a relatively small space. A hillside is
planted with various types of pine trees, which reminds Helga of the
Black Forest from her native Germany. The pine trees are combined with
low growing cotoneaster, pachysandra and evergreens – a very interesting
use of space here.
